Since we are going to be forced by law to buy only fluorescent bulbs it would be nice if GE would make some in the USA. At present ALL fluorescent bulbs are made in China.

Jeff Immelt is Obama's buddy. He gave him a pass on all taxes in exchange for campaign donations.

If you think otherwise tell me how much you donated and divide by 1.3 billion

This is pure public relations, and is done for political expediency.
Smoke and mirrors at it's finest. Note that they are only ""giving back'' the amount
they were previously claiming was a tax refund.
This is a tax refund in the same way way the earned income credit is, an amount of money to be refunded to those who have paid no income tax in the first place.
By their own statement they will still pay NO TAX on 11 billion dollars in profit.
As for their pledge to create 1 American job for each placed in foreign nations, this only means that workers in both categories will be diminished as much as possible, and they will be hired through sub contractors and given a lower wage scale than GE corporate scale.

I worked for them 30 years and I know how they work. They have paid no Federal tax IN YEARS.

But, what about the broken tax code that encourages businesses to do this???

What about the other businesses who did similar things, GE shouldn't be singled out just because they have the most successful tax people.

Yahoo needs to fix this story immedietly and replace it with the correct headline

"GE THUMBS NOSE AT NATION: PROCLAIMS IT HAS EVERY INTENTION OF KEEPING THE BILLIONS IT HAS SWINDLED FROM TAXPAYERS"

The story could then go on to point out how Imelt was dissatisfied with this years haul and how he intends to improve "cashflow" going forward.

I will beleive it when I see it. What a bunch of crooks. I will never buy GE again. The same reason I will not buy Campbell Soup products, Stanley Tool products, keep digging and you will find the biggest percentage of companies you thought were American have moved not only production overseas but have moved their monies off shore also. So much for American companies keeping our economy going.
