Shanto Iyengar teaches courses in the areas of political communication and mass media effects and is the director of the Political Communication Lab., a research group that utilizes the Internet to study politics and media.

When Iyengar is not in the office, he can be found at the Stanford Cricket Club practice pitch working on his leg breaks. Although known primarily as a spinner, he can bat. In addition to cricket, he is a B-level squash player, and an admirer of William Ash and the Yesmen.
