Re:Ottawa pulls its own
Internet hoax, Jan. 11
The
government of Canada takes very seriously the use of any tactics
designed to mislead Canadians and present inaccurate information about
its policies. This includes the recent case of websites hosted by a
German-based Internet service provider that were misrepresented as
being Environment Canada's official website and which, in addition to
infringing on Environment Canada's intellectual property rights,
contained deceptive information on Canada's climate change policies.
The
government acted quickly and appropriately to have the two hoax
websites deactivated so that the circulation of false information would
be halted and further confusion would be avoided.
