An activist group that launched a website spoof has led one energy company to act fast. Peabody energy was at the center of the hoax after the group stated on their website, CoalCares.org that the company is offering "Puff-Puff inhalers" free to any family living within 200 miles of a coal plant, as well as a $10 coupon for asthma medication. The site also published "facts" about coal that compared it to other alternative sources of energy, stating, for example, that 'wind turbines kill 70,000 birds per year" while coal pollution "kills fewer than 13,000 people per year." Peabody energy has cited figures and statistics from the United Nations, World Resources Institute and the U.S. government to refute the "facts" posted in the spoof website. The company also directed readers to its own websites, PeabodyEnergy.com and CoalCanDoThat.com. Shares at Peabody are down 0.85% to $63.36.
