Last week, the Yes-Men created a replica of Dow Chemical's website at the domain www.dow-chemical.com - (now available at http://www.dowethics.com/

"Dow is responsible for the birth of the modern environmental movement," begins the The Yes-Men's sophisticated detournment of the official site. The group also published press releases entitled "Responsible Care: Aiming For Zero Responsibility" and a canned quote from 'a Dow Spokesperson'.

Dow acquired Union Carbide and inherited the responsibility for the horrific Bhopal disaster, which has so far killed 20,000 Indians after a leak of the unstable chemical methyl isocyanate..more from the register

On Dec. 3, the eighteenth anniversary of the Union Carbide (i.e. Dow) disaster at Bhopal, a press release was sent out by Dow-Chemical.com, telling Dow's story more honestly than Dow ever does.

Then on Dec. 4, after business hours and when nobody was on hand to deal with it, Verio shut down the entire Thing.net network, which hosts innumerable activist, artist, and other websites and bulletin boards (as well as Dow-Chemical.com). Verio did this in response to the DMCA notice that they had received the day before.

But the site has now reappeared in nine separate places listed on the theyesmen.org and you can download the site for your web space at dow-chemical.va.com.au/site.zip

Then to make things worse for DOW, Greenpeace have come out with an even more cutting parody of DOW at http://www.mad-dow-disease.com/

discuss this..b>
