Hair hoax angers Enbridge

A hoax news release that claimed Calgary-based pipeline company Enbridge Inc. would use human hair to soak up future B.C. oil spills left the company fuming Tuesday.

"'MyHairCares' is a hoax and makes light of a serious issue," said spokeswoman Gina Jordan in a statement. "It is not an Enbridge or Northern Gateway initiative, and Enbridge deplores this cynical attempt to take advantage of public concern about the environment."

The authentic looking release, posted online, claims that Enbridge will turn hair clippings from "over 1,000 participating salons" to create "super-absorbent oil cleanup booms" to deploy as safety measures on the route of its proposed Northern Gateway oil pipeline through B.C.

A news release appearing to be from Greenpeace co-founder Rex Weyler was then sent to media, including the Calgary Herald, but Weyler said in an interview he too was misled.

"Whoever did this phoned me and asked if I would have a comment and I said, 'Sure.' I didn't really check it out," he said from Vancouver.

"I don't know who's behind it but it's not Greenpeace."

Enbridge wowed to vigorously defend its reputation and is considering a legal response, it said.

Just another example of BS tatics by the eco-terrorist nuts. Greenpeace was most likely behind this or maybe it was you BlueQuill, it's seems like something you would do since you love sitting behind a computer that evil evil oil created yet you embrace like a mother does a newborn.

I thought there was something funny about the line:
“We’re an oil company and our business is risky.”

The way the press release was framed, Enbridge implicitly accepted the inevitability of oilspills as just a cost of doing business, but promised to clean them up afterwards.

Enbridge won't admit it, but that's the truth.

"Enbridge wowed to vigorously defend its reputation and is considering a legal response"

If Enbridge wants to defend its reputation, it can start by maintaining its current pipelines properly.

Enbridge should acknowledge the full environmental impact of a pipeline through fragile BC wilderness and tanker traffic off BC's northern coast, including its impact on marine life, such as whales.

Enbridge should acknowledge that a pipeline leak in BC wilderness or an oil spill off BC's northern coast would be catastrophic.
Given Enbridge's track record, we can't afford to take the risk.

Enbridge should respect the wishes of local residents.

Just the opposite of what it's actually doing.

Sounds like Enbridge is missing the point...isn't any publicity good publicity?

Green Peace says they had nothing to do with this, but I don't believe that. They have a reputation for doing stupid things.
