Even before the nuclear crisis escalated, it was impossible to imagine what the Japanese are enduring. A rare street-level video helps capture the sight, sound and feel of the tsunami as it sweeps away a town.

Obama has waded...oops...dipped a tentative toe into the gun control debate, with the usual results. In an editorial, he stressed 79 times he believes in the right to bear arms and gun owners are "our friends and neighbors" - with no mention of assault weapons. Less than cowed, the NRA responded the problem isn't guns but the media, courts and mental health system - and then declined to join White House meetings on the issue. While you're waiting for real change, did you know you can look up your favorite moments of mayhem in an Internet Movie Firearms Database?

Scott Walker has been met with protests wherever he goes, including a fundraiser in Wisconsin's "North Country" that drew about 5,000 protesters, or twice the number of people who live in the town. Meanwhile, the recall effort has garnered over $2 million and promising poll results. Video of an earlier protest. Odd: Walker seems less than happy to be there.

"Gov. Walker, you probably can't remember me, but ... I can recall you." - protest sign

The increasingly-incoherent Glenn Beck is ranting that the disasters striking Japan are a message from God, and we better start following "Moses' big top ten" and "buckle up." Or: we could actually help.

With a third blast reported at Fukushima, an alarming look back at President Obama's arguments in favor of nuclear power.

"There's no reason why, technologically, we can't employ nuclear energy in a safe and effective way. Japan does it and France does it... So it would be stupid for us not to do that in a much more effective way." - Obama in October 2009.

A new survey shows that rich people only feel rich if they have at least $7.5 million. Millionaires also feel more upbeat than they have for years; their 5% of the country now controls 56% of its wealth. But listen to Samuel Johnson: "Avarice is always poor." Let them eat cake laced with shame.

“Wealth is relative, and to some extent the more you have the more you realize how much more you need.” - a rich guy

With frightening and conflicting news out of Japan, where to go for more reliable sources than CNN's unnamed "officials"? You can try: International Atomic Energy Agency; Nuclear Information and Resource Service (NIRS); English-language live-stream from Japan; and a geological how and why of what happened. For those whose knowledge of nuclear power is limited to The Simpsons, a look at just how it works, with more from the Union of Concerned Scientists.
