The ninth Nantucket Film Festival drew to a close
Sunday with an awards ceremony at Straight Wharf restaurant that saw
“The Yes Men” directed by Chris Smith, Sarah Price and Dan Ollman
receive the Audience Award for Best Feature Film. “American Nutria,”
written and directed by Matt McCormick, won the Audience Award for Best
Short.
The Moby Dick Award for Best Screenwriting in a Feature
Film went to “Down to the Bone,” written and directed by Debra Granik.
The Moby Dick Award for Best Screenwriting in a Short Film went to
Terri Edda Miller for “Dysenchanted.” A new award, Best Storytelling in
a Documentary Film, went to producer and director Ruth Leitman for
“Lipstick and Dynamite, Piss and Vinegar: The First Ladies of
Wrestling.” The Best Writer/Director Award went to Shane Caruth for
“Primer.”
The Teen View on NFF Jury, which gives island teens a chance to sit on
a real jury at a film festival and analyze all 25 shorts in this year’s
program, was comprised of five students from the Nantucket New School:
Liz Malenfant, Lily White, Django Broer-Hellerman, Evan Hall and Alana
Zola-Sears. The Teen View Award went to “Harvie Krumpet,” with
“American Nutria” the runner-up.
