Williams Students for Social Justice Host Alternative Gift Faire - November, 22 2004
WILLIAMSTOWN – Williams Students for Social Justice will host an Alternative Gift Faire on Saturday, December 4 from 11 am- 4 pm, in Fellowship Hall at the First Congregational Church of Williamstown, located at 906 Main Street. First Church is co-sponsoring the event.
The Alternative Gift Faire is a fun way to bypass the annual stress of holiday shopping and "stuff" accumulation while honoring friends and relatives with donations to causes that fit their values. What's more, the Alternative Gift Faire provides critical support for a diverse collection of local, national, and international organizations with established track records of helping people and the environment.
Instead of the same old gifts from the mall, come and shop for one-of-a-kind free trade items or make a donation in someone’s name to a worthy cause. Organizations planning to have tables at the Faire include the Heifer Project International, Habitat for Humanity, Enterprising Kitchen, South Africa AIDS, Better World Books, the Yes Men, the Williams College Social Choice Fund, Amnesty International, Maggie’s Organics, Wild Oats Community Market, Gabriela, the Sudan Relief Task Force, Caretaker Farm, Half the Sky, Hearts for Haiti, and the Hoosic River Watershed Association.
In addition there will be alternative Christmas cards, cool co-op handicrafts, maple syrup from the Center for Environmental Studies, and fair trade chocolate, tea, coffee, and cocoa for sale. Sudanese lentil soup will be available for hungry shoppers.
