WTD?

From Halliburton?!?!?!

Whomever this guy is, he's got a lot of balls ... merely sayin' ...

Posted by: O. the U(manity) | 04:59 PM on May 10, 2006

Huh?

Posted by: Schadeboy | 05:02 PM on May 10, 2006

Man, I hope they paid the guys in the outfits a LOT of money...

Posted by: Sallyacious | 05:05 PM on May 10, 2006

wtfbbq?

Posted by: lollyk | 05:08 PM on May 10, 2006

WTDBBQ????

Posted by: sthnbelle | 05:11 PM on May 10, 2006

Oops, sorry, lolly - didn't mean to be an echo!

Posted by: sthnbelle | 05:12 PM on May 10, 2006

Sallyacious - it's Halliburton - they pay EVERYONE lots of money.

Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | 05:13 PM on May 10, 2006

Wowser!

THAT's unusual ... the echo is louder than the original ... must be the reverb ...

(Hi, sthnbelle ... merely sayin' ...)

Posted by: O. the U(manity) | 05:14 PM on May 10, 2006

Are those the guys who get stuck in the fan on Wllie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?

Posted by: Beth | 05:15 PM on May 10, 2006

May I say, WTfreakin'D?

Posted by: Sarah J | 05:17 PM on May 10, 2006

I don't get it. Maybe I'm stupid, but I don't get it.

Posted by: Jemmy the I-Just-Get-These-Headaches | 05:23 PM on May 10, 2006

Please dont show this to the management where I work because we would soon be dressing up like this. The management is into "business fads" and we pay the humiliating price for it.

Posted by: ncc1701 | 05:24 PM on May 10, 2006

It's time for "Make Your Own Byline!"
"Seriously, though, does this suit make my butt look big?"
or
"Please hurry, sir. The meter's running on the alien landing craft outside."

"Come on, pull my fabric."

My real guess is that these 'survivaball' guys showed up like they were part of the presentation - demonstrating a 'survival ball' that you would inflate in case of some type of emergency, for instance, if you ran out of decent one-liners. Booger!

Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | 05:25 PM on May 10, 2006

The corporate version of getting punk'd. No?

Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | 05:26 PM on May 10, 2006

...or maybe the hoax is on us for trying to figure out how this is funny. Suddenly, I feel so, so used.

Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | 05:28 PM on May 10, 2006

...and lonely...

Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | 05:34 PM on May 10, 2006

Ohhhh...

Lordy, I hope it's a hoax. When global warming really gets into gear, I'm not gonna be worried about saving any corporate managers.

Unless I am one. Or my significant other. Or my as-yet-imaginary kids. But I won't be worried about any corporate managers outside of the family.

Posted by: Jemmy the I-Just-Get-These-Headaches | 05:36 PM on May 10, 2006

Whew. I feel so much better now. Thank GoD Halliburton is on the case... What on Earth would we do without them??

Oh. That's right. We'd all have cars that ran on air, never needed gas, breathe smog-free at ground level and watch the giant ozone whole shrink while slathering on our sunblock and watching the ice caps refreeze.

Posted by: chatmal | 05:43 PM on May 10, 2006

I'm sure this site and its lame-a** designers is where some of that missing Pentagon money has ended up...

Posted by: mellio | 05:47 PM on May 10, 2006

Why do they keep mentioning throughout the article that they protect "managers?" Are the rest of the workers just expected to die.

Posted by: James T. | 05:53 PM on May 10, 2006

I'm really confused about the costumes. But I read the "speech" and I really hope this is a hoax by some well-meaning tounge-in-cheek environmentalist because the reference to landlords getting pulled out of an "economic blackhole" by Katrina is not at all humorous.

Posted by: Jacki | 05:55 PM on May 10, 2006

SOT, but related to "clothing" ...

Alice Cooper is gonna play a concert in Fargo (yes, that Fargo) on May 15 ... on May 14, he is gonna be in Alice, Nodak ...

This is especially of interest to moi ownself, 'cuz MB(RH?) grew up @ Alice, Nodak, and her folks still live there, less that five minutes away from the "concert" hall in town ...

ALSO, my oldest granddaughter shares her birthday with Alice Cooper ... and Yes, both she and her mom will be there ...

My daughter's company (of which she is the designer/art director) has created some neat-o shirts for the event ... If I can put a pdf file on my photo site, I'll post a link ...

/proud parent braggin' ...

Posted by: O. the U(manity) | 05:59 PM on May 10, 2006

Nope, can't do a pdf there, sorry ...

Posted by: O. the U(manity) | 06:02 PM on May 10, 2006

Key quote from update link: The SurvivaBall builds on Halliburton's reputation as a disaster and conflict industry innovator ...

Yeah, Halliburton has "innovated" a lot of disaster and conflict ... merely sayin' ...

Not sayin' NEthing about the f*ckin' GALL of these "managers" who place their own well-being and PROFITS above the needs of ordinary people ... nope, not sayin' a thing ...

Posted by: O. the U(manity) | 06:06 PM on May 10, 2006

Okay, so I don't really like hoaxes. I'm gullable and always have to find out for myself.

www.halliburtoncontracts.com is registered to:
domain: HALLIBURTONCONTRACTS.COM
owner-name: Alfred Barbalunga
owner-address: 616 Avenue of the Americas
owner-address: 12211
owner-address: New York
owner-address: United States of America
owner-phone: +1.9172224382

Since Halliburton.com is registered to Halliburton Energy Corp., I'd say this is a hoax.

Posted by: Jacki | 06:07 PM on May 10, 2006

"...Much as amoebas link up into slime molds when threatened..."

Kinda poetic, in a strange sort of way...

Posted by: AFKAT | 06:11 PM on May 10, 2006

It's definitely a hoax. It's also kind of a jerk thing to do, because Mr. Barbalunga (which is a name we cannot make fun of) ripped off their website design, which they almost certainly paid money for. Stealing CSS and HTML without permission isn't illegal, but it's not nice.

Posted by: Thor | 06:42 PM on May 10, 2006

I sent this in also and also sent it to some friends in great puzzlement, not able to tell whether it was a hoax. One of them was able to clarify: it's a very elaborate hoax from The Yes Men (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Yes_Men), political activists who did a similar stunt at the World Trade Organization talks in 2001 (http://slashdot.org/articles/01/01/08/0129234.shtml). They actually did speak at the conference in the guise of being from Halliburton.

Posted by: JG | 07:03 PM on May 10, 2006

OK, so that's settled ... sorta ...

The T-shirt is here ...

Posted by: O. the U(manity) | 07:03 PM on May 10, 2006

http://www.theyesmen.org/

Their site claims responsibility.

Most excellent hoax.

Posted by: Peter Metrinko | 07:43 PM on May 10, 2006

Yes, www.halliburtoncontracts.com is a hoax. Halliburton.com is the real site, and it includes products like the Maxim Shape Charge which I don't 100% understand--though it does include two holes next to quarters and the hole caused by the Maxim Shape Charge is clearly bigger.

Booger.

Posted by: spinner8 | 07:28 AM on May 11, 2006

Reminds me of the survival suit Woody Allen wore in Sleeper.

Posted by: Juggler of Geese | 08:05 AM on May 11, 2006

What's an "UDPATE"? :)

Posted by: Syerra | 10:10 AM on May 11, 2006

O the U, I like the shirt. In addition, I nosily looked at the other pictures. Jake and Wyatt are sooooo cute!

Posted by: Ellasmom | 12:03 PM on May 11, 2006

Ellasmom -

tnx for lookin' ... that's why I've got those pix there ... I dismember which pix of the boys I have there ... the two together, Jake is about 20 hours old, my daughter (the T-shirt designer) took that one ... if the other one of Jake, with the huge smile ... is there ... I captured that moment ...

/proud grandpa spiel ...
