Pranksters tell Salon: 'We hope to shame HUD'

Print This Email This In an interview with Salon, two members of the "Yes Men" group explain why they posed as HUD officials at a contractor's conference held in New Orleans.
"We wanted to call attention to this situation in New Orleans, which
is emblematic of a much bigger issue, of the way that HUD is treating
the people that they're supposed to be watching out for," said Andy
Bichlbaum (not his real name).
"Their policy, systematically across the country and especially in
New Orleans right now, is to tear down public housing and replace it
with so-called mixed-income flats," added Bichlbaum. "They take funding
away from services, like education and healthcare."
"There's another way to do it. We think they're going about it the wrong way, and we wanted to call attention to that issue."
When asked what effect was hoped for, Bichlbaum said that they wanted to "shame" HUD.
"We hope to shame HUD, and the city, into listening to what people
really want, and what people want is to get back into their homes,"
said Bichlbaum. "What the city should want is to get people back into
their homes."
