About that Power Plant Coming to the South Loop: Just Kidding!

A group of enviro hoaxters took a page out of The Yes Men's playbook today, convincing South Loop condo owners that a coal power plant was coming to Franklin Point. The group, which identified itself as Citizens United Against Loop Coal, launched a blog, distributed leaflets, and even sent picketers out to the South Loop to protest the fictional power plant. The hoax comes a week after the City Council vote on the Clean Power Ordinance was stalled. Not coincidentally, Midwest Generation, the company that runs the Crawford and Fisk plants in Pilsen and Little Village, was named as the operator of the South Loop plant. In those neighborhoods, coal isn't a joke.
