Too Clever?
At the train station yesterday, a nice looking yound man handed me this leaflet.
I was about to throw it out, but after I read it I realized that it was a parody. At least I'm pretty sure it's a parody, a very well-done one. It's so well done that it actually looks like real Bush campaign literature.
I'm not sure what's more disturbing, that BushCo thinks we're stupid enough that this literature actually looks like it comes from them, or that people actually are stupid enough that they'll sign this thing.

Olympic Geeks
So we're watching Olympic women's diving, and there's Guo Jingjing of China.
Now, it's actually pronounced "Wah Jing-Jing." She's been competing since the Atlanta 1996 Games. We know this because, at the time, the song "Wah-Beep beep" (or whatever it's actually called) was popular, and The Wife and I were living in Chicago, and we used to walk around singing "Waaaaaaaah--Jinjing!"
Not only that, but our apartment was god-awful hot and not air conditioned, yet we sat there and watched every minute of the olympics. And every time Guo Jingjing or one of the other Chinese would dive, the announcer would tell us that her dive exemplified the "Chinese Way," whatever that is. And there was that really annoying commercial with the high-pitched "Georgia on my Mind."

Whose Cuisine Reigns Supreme?
OK, we're watching the Olympics, and it's time for diving. Bob Costas trustily informs us that China's Bo Peng is the favorite. Then, the segment begins, underscored by the theme music from Iron Chef.
Yes, I said the theme music from Iron Chef. Dude isn't even Japanese! I think this is offensive, but really it's just funny. I wonder if Bo Peng is replacing Chen Kenichi as Iron Chef Chinese.
BTW, I called that I get to blog this. The Wife started to, but I called it, so I made her take hers down. Nyahhh!
OK, I Now have a slightly less bad feeling about this
This thread over at Daily Kos discusses how the whole slow response to the Swift Boat crap may be deliberate on Kerry's part, and raises my hopes just a little bit. There's some good stuff in there and some analysis based on kerry's past campaigns.
So I feel a little better, but we'll have to see what happens.

I have a bad feeling about this
After the Democratic Convention 3 weeks ago, I was really excited about Kerry and the possibility that he would actually win. The feeling held up pretty well until today.
Now I've got a sinking feeling that I can't actually explain, but it tells me not to get my hopes up. I hate that. I can't make a cogent argument either way, but the process of going from hope to dread in a span of a few days is a humungous bummer.
I'm sure I'll be up and down on Kerry's prospects several times over the next few months, so it probably doesn't mean anything. But still. Bleh.
