Is the trader from hell actually a hoax?

Trader from hell

Alessio Rastani drew gasps when he told interviewers: "Governments don't rule the world - Goldman Sachs rules the world." Picture: BBC Source: Supplied

A TRADER who caused outrage around the world when he told TV interviewers he goes to bed at night dreaming of a recession may not be all he claims to be.

Alessio Rastani claimed on BBC news the Euro-zone market would crash and the economic problems were like a cancer.

"It's not a time right now for wishful thinking that the government is going to sort things out. Governments don't rule the world - Goldman Sachs rules the world," he said, as he offered tips on how to turn a tidy profit when things go pear-shaped.'

But Twitter is buzzing with claims that Mr Rastani was playing a giant hoax on the world.

Users claim he is a member of "Yes Men", a group of pranksters who pass themselves off as employees of powerful corporations or criminals in order to publicly humiliate them.

The BBC said Mr Rastani was authentic. However, Mr Rastani is not registered with the Financial Services Authority and his website, leadingtrader.com, crashes on loading.

Mr Rastani told the guardian.co.uk that he was aware of the claims but refused to comment on them. He would only say: "Conspiracy theories, eh!"

Here's a clip of the Yes Men pulling the wool over the eyes of the BBC. On e of the band is impersonating a spokesman for Dow Chemical and promising massive compensation for the thousands of victims of the Bhopal disaster in which Dow Chemical's subsidiary Union Carbide India was responsible for in 1984.
