News that Starbucks plans to nix a 70-cent charge for adding almond, soy, and oat milks to its coffees and other hot and cold beverages starting January 1 is false, the company confirmed to Fast Company.

The Seattle-based coffee chain clarified after reports of the non-dairy news appeared, among other places in Business Insider and the trade news website QSR.

The bogus announcement alleged that Starbucks was making the change as part of its desire to eliminate “dietary racism.”

While some people opt for plant-based milks due to veganism or a desire to avoid dairy, many have no choice due to their lactose intolerance, which makes it hard for them to digest the sugar found in milk products.

An estimated 68% of the world’s population has lactose malabsorption issues, according to the National Institutes of Health, and people of color are more likely to have lactose intolerance.

Non-dairy milk debuted at Starbucks in 1997, when soy milk was added to the menu, according to the company website. Coconut milk joined the line-up in 2015, followed by oat milk this year.

As Americans continue to embrace healthier lifestyles, interest in alternative milks grows. According to the market research firm Global Market Insights, global plant-based milk’s market value is expected to top $21 billion by 2026.

This is hardly the first time media outlets have fallen for bogus press releases. For example, in September, a fake Walmart news release gained traction, announcing the retail giant was going to start accepting litecoin.

“And just like that… Mr. Big is alive” – well, at least in a new ad for Peloton.

The fitness company released a commercial featuring Chris Noth on Sunday, just days after his beloved “Sex and the City” character was pronounced dead in HBO Max’s “And Just Like That…” revival series.

During the show’s premiere episode, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) comes home to find Mr. Big lying in the shower. She discovers he suffered a heart attack moments after a ride with his favorite instructor, Allegra, portrayed by Peloton’s Jess King.

The all-new ad shows Noth and King sitting across from each other on a couch, in front of a crackling fire.

“To new beginnings,” Noth tells King, who replies, “You look great.”

“Oh, I feel great,” Noth adds. “Should we take another ride? Life’s too short not to.”

And if that wasn’t epic enough, actor Ryan Reynolds also makes an appearance via voiceover at the end of the ad.

“And just like that… the world was reminded that regular cycling stimulates and improves your heart, lungs and circulation, reducing your risk of cardiovascular diseases,” Reynolds explains. “Cycling strengthens your heart, muscles, lowers resting pulse and reduces blood fat levels. He’s alive.”

The new Peloton ad is the latest response to Noth’s beloved “Sex and the City” character suffering a heart attack following his 1,000th ride on the exercise bike.

Peloton originally responded to the fictional character’s death with a statement from Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, a preventative cardiologist and member of their health and wellness advisory council.

“Mr. Big lived what many would call an extravagant lifestyle — including cocktails, cigars, and big steaks — and was at serious risk as he had a previous cardiac event in Season 6,” Steinbaum said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

“These lifestyle choices and perhaps even his family history, which often is a significant factor, were the likely cause of his death. Riding his Peloton Bike may have even helped delay his cardiac event.”
