Suggester says: I like it! | | | |

"Honest people impersonate big-time criminals in order to publicly
humiliate them. Targets are leaders and big corporations who put
profits ahead of everything else."
So, I saw their documentary last night - excellent, and hilarious. I like this sort of activism. I somewhat agree with stringo
on the Bhopal stuff - perhaps it wasn't too well thought out in regards
to considering the victims feelings, but on the other hand the issue
suddenly got the attention it deserved - and nothing the Yes Men did
here that may have disappointed the victims can even begin to compare
to the hurt and disappointment that Dow has inflicted upon them.
I think they're doing a genius thing here. For once, regular Joes are
exploiting corporations and the media, and not the other way around.
And i like their silly aliases (like Granwyth Hulatberi and Hank Hardy
Unruh). Go here
for some e-mail exchanges between the Yes Men and business people who
contact them through their spoof pages. Thinking they are speaking to
the WTO, they ask for advice on trade issues, and hilarity ensues. |

to a talk with them last night. I think they are an interesting group,
but the limitations of satire are all too apparent. And the Bhopal/Dow
stunt was, in my opinion, ill-conceived, naive and counterproductive.
On saying that, I think these deserve a round of applause. |

What do you think these responses indicate about the mindset of the
corporate man?
Ready to goosestep. Fully in sync with the bottom line of the
commanding operation. And not just the corporate man: the corporate
woman, the academic man, the political woman, the alcoholic child.
Many, many people, regardless of education, are easy prey for the ideas
of the corporate decision-makers. Present them with a decision, they
will accept it! This is why it is important for citizens to decide what
sorts of corporate decisions are and are not acceptable. It is never
possible to count on the highly educated to filter the okay from the
rotten. It is not possible to expect that Ph.D.s will always be on the
lookout for the fascist and murderous. |
| elif, May 19, 4:55pm These
people are incredible. I learnt about this site through their
documentary movie called 'The Yes Men'. I recommend it everyone to
watch.. They're incredibly creative activists.. One must be really
crazy to have such ideas, yet it is so appropriate.. Just terrific.. |
